The Problem

Educated Mortgage had been running on a proprietary platform for years. It worked, but just barely. They had almost no ability to edit their own content, and adding new pages or sections meant going through the vendor. The calculators were baked into the platform, which sounds fine until you realize that means you own nothing.

They needed a real website. One they could actually manage.

The Approach

The goal was to rebuild everything from scratch in WordPress, without losing what made the old site useful. That meant recreating the calculators as custom Gutenberg blocks, so they’d work the same way but live inside a system the client controls.

We built a fully custom FSE theme. All the content was written and structured from the ground up. The focus throughout was on clarity, performance, and giving the client something they’d actually be able to maintain long after launch.

  • Custom FSE theme built to the latest WordPress coding standards.
  • Full content build, new copy and structure focused CRO and SEO.
  • Multiple custom calculator blocks recreated from a proprietary platform.
  • Modular block patterns for easy reuse across the site.
  • Built for performance and long-term maintainability.

The Build

The site runs on a custom FSE theme built with modern WordPress standards. Blocks handle all the layout, which keeps things flexible and consistent across pages.

The most involved part was the calculators. The original ones lived inside a proprietary system, so we reverse-engineered the logic and rebuilt each one as a native WordPress block. They look the same to the user, but now they’re fully owned and editable by the client.
